EURO 2008 tickets go on sale.

The online sale of tickets for UEFA EURO 2008 was officially launched in Basle on Thursday. With applications being accepted until 31 March 2007, 33 per cent of the 1,050,000 tickets for the final tournament will be sold directly to fans via www.euro2008.com.

Of the remaining tickets, 38 per cent will be reserved for the participating national associations, 14 per cent will go to official sponsors, with the remainder being reserved for VIPs, special guests, the UEFA football family and the host cities and stadium owners. Austrian tournament director Christian Schmölzer has urged fans to take their time, as tickets will not be allocated on a first come, first served basis. He said: "It makes no difference whether you order the tickets on the first or last day. People have a whole month, so there is no need to hurry."

Platini elected Uefa president;

Former France captain Michel Platini has been elected as Uefa's new president, ahead of rival Lennart Johansson after a vote in Dusseldorf.

, who has promised to limit the maximum number of clubs each country can have in the Champions League to three, won by 27 votes to 23, with two ballots deemed invalid. He will serve as Uefa president for the next four years and will also be a Fifa vice-president.

revealed he would push on with his plans to re-shape the Champions League, with his sights set on the new format starting in 2009.
He said: "I talked about finding a better equilibrium for the number of clubs and that's for 2009-10".
